Noemi's Notes No. 12

May 22

Happy May (can you even believe it's almost the end of May already?)!

One of my favorite projects in the last month was making myself a pencil case after having had it on my to-do list for over six months. If you know me you know that I often "go big or go home": I actually ended up making eight pouches – I bought three fat quarters with my designs on Spoonflower, thrifted a whole bunch of zippers, and voila.

After taking a drawing class from the amazing Laura Thompson recently, I have been exploring with graphite, something I have never really worked with other than the occasional sketch or for, of course, writing.

I find it quite versatile, and I've been experimenting with using it in conjunction with other mediums like watercolor in a more abstract way than just drawing from life. I have yet to feel confident in drawing realistically, but practice will make progress.

My last market for the season was a few weeks ago, and I really enjoyed hanging out in downtown Harrisonburg for a few hours and meeting lots of new people. The next event on the queue for me is an exhibit in July, with an opening on July 4th, 5-7 pm. Find more specifics here.

It feels like a lot – the framing, the brainstorming, and of course actually making the art – but I think it is going to be an amazing experience and a great show. I hope I will see you there!

Take care out there, friends. Enjoy the weather and I hope you can find the time to create something!

Cheers,
